We exist because these conditions are connected, and the patients who live with them deserve a practice that treats them as connected.
The practice was founded by Jeff Russell, a healthcare entrepreneur with a long background in global business process operations and chronic care delivery. Our Columbus, Georgia clinic was established in 2025 on the St. Francis-Emory Healthcare campus, originally as Columbus Diabetes and Wound Care Center, focused on diabetic wound care. As the practice grew, the scope expanded to reflect the way chronic disease actually behaves in patients's lives. Diabetes is rarely a single condition. It is a system of interconnected conditions that benefit from a single coordinated practice.
In 2026, the practice rebranded to American Diabetes & Metabolic Centers to reflect that broader scope and the national vision behind it. The Columbus clinic continues to operate on the St. Francis-Emory campus, and a second clinic operates at Wickenburg Community Hospital in Wickenburg, Arizona. Additional locations are planned.
We have organized the practice around four clinical specialties that, in the lives of real patients, are deeply connected: diabetes management, metabolic health, neuropathy, and wound care. The patient with poorly controlled diabetes often develops neuropathy. The patient with severe neuropathy is more likely to develop chronic foot wounds. The patient struggling with weight and metabolic dysfunction is at higher risk for all of these. Treating them under one practice, with one coordinated team, is faster, more effective, and less exhausting for the patient.
Our practice is led by physicians, including endocrinology and wound care specialists, and supported by experienced nurse practitioners and clinical staff. The model is designed so that the patient's day-to-day care is anchored by clinicians who know them well, with specialist depth available immediately as questions arise. That combination — of consistent relationship and clinical sophistication — is what we believe complex chronic care requires.
Our Columbus clinic operates on the St. Francis-Emory Healthcare campus, in the Woodruff Pavilion, providing patients with both the focused attention of a specialty practice and the depth of resources available within a hospital community.
